.. _popy_env:

popy_env
##########

For all the :ref:`popy_tools` to work, we must first update the internal paths on your computer and set some environment variables. To do this, we provide a :command:`popy_env` tool that you run from a command prompt (or Powershell):-

.. code-block:: console

    $ popy_env

If the command is successful, the text in the command prompt should change from white to light blue (if in a |dosp|).

You can achieve the same thing by opening the :ref:`open_a_popy_command_prompt` from your desktop or the Start Menu - the shortcut starts a new DOS prompt then automatically calls 'popy_env'.

The settings initialised by :command:`popy_env` are summarised by the :ref:`popy_info` tool.
